Catalog description

Technical communication is designed to develop skills necessary to create several types of documents commonly encountered in business, industry, science, and government. The key emphasis in the course is placed on researched reports. The principles of expository writing (unity, clarity, coherence, organization, and corrections) are applied to a variety of industrial and technical reports, letters, and forms. Students in this course develop technical accuracy and compositional techniques of collecting and presenting data in formal and informal technical reports in oral, written, and visual form. The course also addresses effective use of visual evidence and basic guidelines for oral communication. The course will stress the concept of researched writing as a process, with audience and purpose and primary considerations.
