Critically examines timbre by engaging with the following questions: What is timbre, and how is it related to sound? What scholarship has addressed timbre and in what ways? How can timbre be effectively discussed and written about? By exploring timbre in classical and popular music genres, as well as in specific works, and by considering timbre through lenses such as music education and race, seek to better understand what some scholars argue is a rather nebulous phenomenon.
