Catalog description

Considers how African music and culture have influenced African American musical expression since the beginning of the transatlantic slave trade and up through the development of the blues, jazz, soul music, hip hop, and RB. Also considers how such cultural flows have moved in both directions, from the foundations of African American music in African aesthetics, to the ways that jazz and hip-hop musicians have made explicit reference or taken inspiration from Africa.
