Catalog description

-6 Provides a variable-credit, faculty-supervised research course designed to support graduate students engaged in original or advanced research in data science and optimization and closely related fields. Offers structured academic credit for independent research conducted under the guidance of a faculty mentor, focusing on a customized research topic aligned with the student’s academic goals, thesis, dissertation objectives or broader scholarly development. Research topics may span the full spectrum of and its interdisciplinary applications including but not limited to statistical modeling, stochastic processes, optimization, machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistical signal processing, data science and decision analytics. Emphasizes the development of research skills, methodological rigor and scholarly communication, preparing students for thesis or dissertation research, peer-reviewed publication and professional research careers. Requirement(s): Instructor approval May be repeated for credit twice.
