Catalog description

Builds on the foundations of digital logic to study the organization and design of computer systems and embedded platforms. Topics include processor data paths and control, instruction set architecture, input/output (I/O) organization, timers and interrupts, and overall computer structure. Students gain practical experience through laboratory investigation, assembly-level programming and debugging on a working processor platform and basic hardware interfacing, developing a concrete understanding of how digital components integrate into complete computing systems. Prerequisite: ECE 1551
