Offers a comprehensive overview of medical device design, covering multiple topics from identifying patient and market needs to device design, manufacturing, evaluation, FDA regulation, market-entry and post-market surveillance. Selects two to three specific biodevices (based on students’ interests)—artificial joints, orthodontic appliances, stents and cranial plates—to provide hands-on practice in medical device design with various open resources and commercial software. Prerequisite: BME 2081 Corequisite: BME 3081
