Catalog description

This course introduces students to the law of criminal procedure whereby the government seeks to convict and punish a person for a criminal offense. This course explores topics such as the manner in which the police detect whether a criminal offense has been committed; the manner in which the evidence is presented to and evaluated by the guilt determining body; and if guilt is determined, the manner in which punishment is imposed. Additional topics include: offenses against persons, property, and habitation, statutory provisions, defenses, parties to crime and jurisdiction, Florida Rule of Criminal Procedure, arrest, search warrant and probable cause, exceptions to the search warrant, admissions and confessions, stop and frisk, pretrial identification procedures, preparation of a case for court, discovery procedures, motions, post-trial motions and procedures, preparing the record on appeal, and habeas corpus petitions credits.
