Catalog description

This course focuses on the idea of inquisition as both a matter of law and as an event. In this period, questions of judicial procedure and fairness took center stage as jurists sought to protect rights before the court. Meanwhile, concerns over correct faith and social conventions led to the event known as the "Inquisition". However, this was not one event but many in different places and at different times. While often seen as two sides of the same coin, inquisition as procedural norms and as a program of persecution are in fact very different.
