ADVANCED FIRE ECOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT

Catalog description

This course will cover concepts related to the ecological impacts and functions of fire on the landscape and examine the effects of fire on human communities, atmospheric conditions (i.e., smoke and wind), vegetation, wildlife, soil, and water resources. The course will examine the impacts of fire control and shifts in historical fire regimes and well as consider changes to fire interaction and effects in the context of global climate change. It will additionally cover the use of fire as a land management tool. Special attention will be placed on the ecological impacts and effects of fire in the ecosystems of the Sierra Nevada bioregion.
