This course is designed to introduce students to the knowledge, skills, and procedures needed to provide effective instruction for students with disabilities who demonstrate persistent reading difficulties. The course presents evidence-based teaching principles, techniques, and strategies that will provide a solid foundation on which to build an effective reading instruction program. This course is Part 1 of a two-part SPED reading series. This course will present all of the content related to word recognition of Scarborough’s rope, and language comprehension will be addressed in SPED 416 (part 2 of the SPED reading series). SPED 415 will require 20 hours of field experience in the FSU Reading Clinic.
