Black Psychology

Catalog description

This course examines the psychology of the Black experience. The course begins with examination of the Black psychology paradigm, its history, and its applications. The course will introduce students to theories and paradigms developed to understand the attitudes, behaviors, psychosocial and educational realities of Black people. To gain a more accurate understanding this course will examine topics relevant to Black psychology such as, racism, racial identity, family, community, spirituality and Black mental health. The course will also focus on how knowledge of Black psychology experiences can be used to promote Black psychological health and wellness.
