The course examines the role of literature in highlighting cultural diversity in America after 1865. Students read a comprehensive selection of American literature written after 1865 while interrogating the social, political, and cultural forces that shaped what we see as American identities through a close analysis of major historical developments. Prerequisite(s): EN 131 or equivalent.
