Bilingualism in the Spanish-Speaking World

The theme of this course is the issue of bilingualism, analyzed from three different angles: sociolinguistic, psycholinguistic, and educational. Bilingualism is a natural and widespread phenomenon, and research on this area has been growing over the last years in various fields, such as Applied Linguistics, Psychology, Sociology, or Education. Approximately half of the world population speaks two or more languages, and current research also shows cognitive advantages for those who speak more than one language. This course will offer students a critical overview of this phenomenon from the three perspectives mentioned above. The course will be conducted in Spanish.
