Catalog description

Embracing the Ignatian notion of becoming “contemplatives in action,” this course invites students to develop a concrete understanding of interlocking social injustices by studying the spiritual practices that sustain and motivate faith communities struggling for justice. We will focus on the housing crisis, ecological devastation, and war, exploring through an interdisciplinary lens how spirituality enables practitioners to see the realities of the world (contemplation) and strive to transform them (action). The Benincasa Community in Guilford, a group of lay Catholics guided by the pillars of contemplation, learning, activism/service, and right relationship, will be our partner in this community-engaged learning experience.
