Theological Anthropology
Fairfield University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Anthropology in the scientia of theology strives to comprehend the human person in light of Revelation. Inherently humans are finite creatures oriented to the infinite. Nonetheless each person is radically free to reject or respond to God. The manifestation of the Absolute God does not occur in religious experience alone, but in a range of social-historical processes. Theological Anthropology holds that death is not destructive nor escape from the material, but death and resurrection are an opening between the finite and infinite. Unlike previous centuries, selfactualization is a major component of life. Most seek material success, yet have an unspoken longing for the Holy.
