Religious Dimensions of Malcolm X

Catalog description

This course surveys the life, work, and legacy of Malcolm X through the lens of religion. Students will study Malcolm X through a variety of disciplines, especially religious studies and theology. While Malcolm’s life serves as the central pillar of the course, time is also spent exploring other lives and movements that emerged alongside Malcolm as well as those influenced by him in later generations. The role and place of religion is examined intersectionally as it relates to questions of power, race, gender, geography, capitalism, colonialism, social justice, and forms of resistance, with race serving as a throughline of concern.
