Cultural Psychology

Catalog description

This course is designed to introduce students to current theories and research about the ways in which sociocultural contexts influence human mind and behavior. Topics will include cultural similarities and differences in basic psychological processes, including human development, personality, motivation, cognition, emotion, health, morality, and social relationships. The course will also explore the role psychology has played in understanding the experiences of culturally diverse groups. It will introduce students to the ways in which psychologists consider culture in the interpretation of personal experience, which will leave students better able to understand and successfully navigate multicultural contexts in our increasingly culturally diverse world.
