Modern Conservatism in America

Catalog description

This course introduces students to the major strains of conservative thought in the United States, with an emphasis on understanding its modern manifestations. The first half of the semester establishes a firm grounding in older variants: classical liberalism, traditionalism, libertarianism, neoconservatism, paleo conservatism, and Movement conservatism. The second half of the course addresses evolutions in the New Right. Students are introduced to the major proponents and critics: from the post liberals and national conservatives, to disaffected former conservative thinkers.
