Politics of Race, Class, and Gender

Catalog description

Despite claims that we live in a ‘postracial’ nation, our race, class, and gender identities still systematically shape our experiences, resources, and life chances. But where did those categories come from and how have they been adapted to sustain systems of power and privilege? This course focuses on contemporary works in political theory to analyze the ongoing social construction of racial categories and their intersections with class, gender, and sexuality in American political life. We explore these processes through the distinct-but-interrelated experiences of white, Black, Indigenous, Asian, and Latin Americans.
