Catalog description

Designed for the non-science majors, this course provides a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of Quantum Computing, a field that promises critical new capabilities in developing unique advances in therapeutic treatments, predicting the weather, secure communications, and many other applications. The course includes 3 major sections: (1) history, concepts, and applications (2) the different types of quantum computers, their hardware, and “modalities” of implementation, (3) how a quantum computing performs its operations, using simple mathematics (simple basic algebra and trigonometry – with remedial coverage included in the course), with the opportunity to run a simple program on the IBM Quantum Platform. No prior knowledge of quantum mechanics is needed. Guest lectures from researchers in the field are planned, with a focus on explaining their research in terms understandable by the general public.
