Catalog description

Engineered composite materials are finding increased use in many high-technology applications such as aerospace, automotive, sporting goods, and structural components as robust durable systems. This course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of classification, processing, properties, selection, design, and failure of polymer, metal, and ceramic based composite materials. Micro-mechanical and macro-mechanical analysis capabilities will be used to assess composite structures. Stiffness and strength evaluation, software simulation, and optimization are used in a laminated composite design application. Graduate equivalent: MEEG 5330 .
