This course offers an introduction to women's status and roles in the Middle East and Central Asia from ancient times to 1600. It explores continuity and change in the role and status of women in primary sources including scriptures and historical documents and secondary sources. It examines social changes shaping women's lives within their families and in society and politics. It also examines how women navigated and influenced their societies' structures and norms.
