This course is an introduction to the history of the modern world since 1500. Using a World History approach, we will explore the dramatic transformation of human societies over the past five centuries as a global process produced through the interactions of the West and "the rest." The course focuses on the role of empires, imperialism, and colonialism in shaping world history.
