Catalog description

This course, with its dual emphasis on literature and creative writing, will explore the generative possibilities of reading and reconsidering myths and fairy tales. Our focus will be on contemporary writing inspired by core narratives; we’ll explore the ways new work addresses older tales, discuss the reception of classical myths (primarily Greek), including the centering of (some) marginalized or hidden perspectives, and study writing craft. Our topic will lead us to other genres and art forms, an interdisciplinary approach to enrich our understanding of the creative process. Students will submit a story-length piece of original fiction for peer review.
