Catalog description

Students need to acquire fundamental knowledge of the relationship between cybersecurity and risk management of business operations. For this, they need to understand the theoretical and legal aspects of cybersecurity and risk. This course takes a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of governance of risk and cybersecurity the concepts of risk management, systems implementation, industry standards development, and public policy debate. The course involves active discussions of the assigned readings. It includes small-group and virtual-class activities to ensure first-hand experience of applying critical security controls and risk assessment tools. This course also covers information security and risk strategies. Students will learn how to analyze, assess, control, and generally manage security and risks from all levels of the systems. They will develop practical knowledge and skills, including analytical skills, basic mathematical methods for calculating risk in different ways, and artistic skills in making judgments and decisions on which risks controlling and how to control them. This is a 3-credit course, requiring a minimum of 18 hours of course engagement each week in an 8-week term, or 9 hours per week in a 15-week term (refer to the Credit Hours Calculation Policy in the Student Handbook).
