Catalog description

This course explores the appeal of non-conventional therapies. They appear to offer what biomedicine does not: a holistic approach to healing; treatments for chronic pain and illness that are often accessible, low-tech, and inexpensive; and a focus on disease prevention and optimal health. Exploring the reasons for the growing use and popularity of many alternative therapies may provide clues to the limitations of the current system as well as indicate future directions for health care as it relates to the urban environment.
