Molecular Neuroscience

Catalog description
Lectures cover the molecular and cellular basis of nervous system function. Topics include: electrophysiology, passive and active properties of the membrane, synaptic transmission, common intracellular signalling pathways, neural induction, axon guidance, synaptic development, sensation, motor function, and memory. The lab section involves Nissl staining and/or immunohistochemistry with microscopy to examine cells and neural proteins, using ImageJ to quantify cellular features, analyzing in vitro and/or in vivo electrophysiological datasets, and running computational models of ion channels and spiking activity in Python.
