This course is designed for business students seeking an in-depth understanding of how business firms use technology to achieve strategic objectives. Students will explore strengths and weaknesses of modern and legacy hardware, software, and networks, and how data are managed (and sometimes mismanaged) by researching and discussing real-world events. This course places heavy emphasis on digital security, including breach prevention and response, encryption methods, and the evolving threat landscape. Students will examine the history of modern computing platforms, analyze current technological trends, and investigate the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) from its technical foundations to its business impacts, ethical considerations, and emerging practices such as vibe coding. The course will also address technology industry trends that are impacting businesses, including Software as a Service (SaaS), cloud-based and on-premesis solutions, and their strategic implications. A key objective is to empower future business professionals to communicate more effectively with their technical counterparts, closing the gap between management and Information Technology teams to foster stronger collaboration and better project outcomes.
