Catalog description

Introduces foundational concepts of strategic communication, examining how persuasion, narrative, and messaging shape audience perception across advertising and contemporary media environments. Through analysis of real-world case studies, students develop critical media literacy with emphasis on ethics, power, representation, and social responsibility. The course also introduces research concepts and emerging technologies, including AI, as tools for evaluating the cultural, ethical, and strategic implications of persuasive communication. This course serves as a conceptual foundation for advanced coursework in digital content creation, storytelling, and applied communication strategy. Prerequisite: COMM 130 or permission of instructor.
