Catalog description

Provides an introduction to the sociological study of legal and illicit drugs, including their use, misuse, abuse, dependency, and addiction. Examines the history and classification of drug use. Reviews theories and research relating to the causes and consequences of drug use and drug culture. Explores the demographics, patterns and cultural determinants of drug use to understand the individual, group and societal impact of drugs. Considers societal and governmental responses to drug use, including treatment, prevention, and policy. Prerequisites: None.
