Catalog description
This course introduces students to the historical policies, practices, and structures of formal schooling in the United States, including the exclusion and rights of children of color, immigrant children, indigenous children, multilingual children, and children with diverse abilities or dis/abilities. Teacher candidates will learn and critically analyze how current programs and services for early childhood (birth through age eight)—including multilingual education and special education—are situated in a lineage of historical foundations and how to apply this understanding to transform our learning communities.
