Catalog description

This course examines the ethical and social implications of artificial intelligence (AI) and data science using the tools of ethical analysis and important concepts in AI and data science such as fairness, accountability, and transparency. Students engage critically with challenges such as privacy, consent, bias, and misinformation in the context of data collection, algorithmic decision-making, machine learning, and automation. Drawing on ethical theories, professional codes of ethics, and legal standards, students explore how technologies reflect and impact human values, institutions, and power structures. The course emphasizes ethical reasoning, critical analysis, and reflective inquiry into the roles and responsibilities of individuals and institutions in a data-driven world.
