This course examines sport as a social construction that provides valuable insights to society. Topics may include: how sport is used as an agent of socialization; how gender, race/ethnicity, and socioeconomic status influences sport participation; how deviance is defined in sports; the role of sport in a global perspective; how sports interact with other social institutions.
