Catalog description

This course will examine the concepts, theories, and methods employed to study sensation and perception from a scientific perspective. Topics will range from reception of various physical stimuli and transduction and transmission of signals within the nervous system, to coding, interpretation, and representation in the brain. These approaches will be applied to the major sensory systems. Additional themes that may be explored include development and change over the lifespan, perceptual constancies, perceptual illusions, attention, and spatial perception. While it is not required, it might be helpful if students have taken Introduction to Psychology or an equivalent course. This course was previously HDV-284364 Sensation and Perception. This course contains elements which rely on vision to complete.
