Psychopathology: Introductory ((4 Credits))

Catalog description

This introductory level course provides an overview of psychopathology, focusing on the classification, symptoms, and treatment of psychological disorders. Students will explore a range of disorders including anxiety, mood, personality, psychotic, and neurodevelopmental disorders. The course emphasizes the use of the DSM for diagnosis and introduces students to biological, psychological, and sociocultural perspectives on mental health. Students will examine how abnormal behavior is defined and treated across multiple contexts. Ethical considerations, stigma, and the impact of mental illness on individuals and families will also be addressed. Important Notes: Do not enroll in this course and the advanced level of the same course title as there is significant redundancy in the content of courses. Do not enroll in this course if you have already taken PSYC 2020 Abnormal Psychology: Intro or PSYC 3010 Abnormal Psychology: Adv; this is the same course with a different title.
