Documentary Photography: Introductory ((4 Credits))

This course explores the historical, and contemporary practice of documentary photography, examining how images have been used to record, interpret, and influence our understanding of the world. Students will study photographers, and projects that have shaped the genre, with attention to ethical considerations, narrative strategies, and the role of photography in social, political, and cultural contexts. Emphasis will be placed on visual storytelling, research methods, and the integration of text and image. Students will learn how to approach subjects thoughtfully, engage with communities responsibly, and construct meaningful photographic narratives. By the end of the course, students will have a refined portfolio piece that demonstrates their ability to critically and creatively engage with documentary photography.
