Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of health and disease in populations. This course introduces public health students to foundational epidemiologic concepts, measures, and methods used in public health practice and research. Public health students will examine patterns of disease occurrence, explore how public health investigators identify risk factors, and assess how evidence informs prevention strategies and policy decisions. Emphasis is placed on understanding study design, critical appraisal of scientific literature, ethical considerations in epidemiologic work, and the role of epidemiology in addressing health disparities and promoting population health.
