Introduction to Geography ((4 Credits))

Catalog description

This course will introduce students to the major tools, techniques, and methodological approaches of the discipline of geography, and develops the idea that modern geography explores and explains the forces behind today's world. During this course the student will be introduced to the following topics: Introduction to Geography: A Look Ahead; Weather and Climate; Landforms; Bio-geochemical Cycles and the Biosphere; Population and Migration; Cultural Geography; The Geography of Languages and Religions; The Human Food Supply; Earth’s Resources and Environmental Protection; Cities and Urbanization; A World of States; Paths to Economic Growth; and Global Challenges and the Scale of Responses. Students will explore what happens in one set of geographic processes and how that process affects others. For example, what happens in economic systems affects environmental conditions; what happens to climate affects political dynamics.
