Catalog description

This study provides an introduction to the principles of ecology, and an overview of biological adaptation and sustainable development. Emphasis will be on using the scientific method to learn about the organization and function of ecosystems, the interactions of human social systems with them, and how social institutions and processes contribute to, or conflict with, sustainability. Specific topics will include general ecology, population ecology, energy, pollution, global climate change, conservation, and land use issues. The course will integrate longstanding ecological principles with a more recent focus on achieving ecologically sustainable development.
