This course builds on the foundations established in EDUC 6030 by deepening students’ understanding of effective mathematics teaching and learning in middle and high school classrooms. Students examine research-based instructional practices that support conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, mathematical reasoning, and productive struggle. Emphasis is placed on designing classrooms that position mathematical thinking as an iterative and revisable process, encouraging learners to share ideas, reflect on feedback, and refine their reasoning over time. Students design and analyze standards-aligned lessons, examine strategies for supporting diverse learners, and reflect on instructional decision-making to promote equitable and meaningful mathematics learning.
