Catalog description
This study examines the theories and methodologies of teaching literacy and the New York State English Language Arts (ELA) Standards including application to reading comprehension and the ELA strands of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will be instructed in the reading/writing connection and the reciprocal relationship between reading, writing, and speaking. Students will explore methods of educational foundations and a variety of techniques and assessment strategies. Additional topics may include ENL, literal understanding, text complexity, close reading, and individualizing instruction. Please note: This study has not been approved and is not valid for future New York State certification. Prerequisites: EDST 3015 Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment (or equivalent), and either ECET 3040 Emergent Literacy or EDST 3021 Language, Literacy and Learning for School-Age Children.
