Catalog description

This course advances students’ technical, aesthetic, and conceptual skills in digital photography through a structured progression from camera control to visual storytelling. Students refine their understanding of exposure, lenses, and lighting while developing advanced compositional strategies, including the use of color, space, and visual hierarchy to create intentional images. Building on a foundation of prior experience with digital photography, students explore how photographs communicate meaning through aesthetic and conceptual decisions. The course emphasizes the development of a cohesive photographic series, integrating research, visual references, and iterative critique to support creative growth. The course culminates in a capstone project consisting of a thematically unified body of images accompanied by an artist statement and reflection. Prerequisites: Prior introductory coursework in digital photography or equivalent experience.
