Systems Neuroscience ((4 Credits))

Catalog description

Systems neuroscience seeks to link the structure and circuitry of the brain to perception, behavior, and cognition. We will cover the organization and function of sensory systems, aspects of the limbic system, and elements of the motor processing systems. Methodologies and datasets will be explored through a literature review. Some course activities involve interpreting visually presented scientific data, including examples such as EEG traces and single-cell recordings. Students with visual impairments who are considering registering for this course are encouraged to contact Accessibility Services in advance to discuss accommodations or alternative approaches to completing course activities. Students will need a computer or tablet (Windows, Mac, iPad, or Chromebook) with a working microphone and camera to use the specialized exam browser. Prerequisites: Biology of the Brain ( BIOL 3212 ) or Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience ( BIOL 3502 ).
