The Biology of Being Human ((4 Credits))

Catalog description

This study explores human 'uniqueness' from a biological perspective, in particular examining major features of human social and sexual behavior. Insights from ethology, evolutionary biology, and neurobiology are synthesized into a picture of human nature, behavior, and history. Implications of evolutionary theories of animal social behavior and their implications to humans are considered. This course is based on the pioneering work on 'human as social animals' by Drs. Paul Bingham and Joanne Souza from Stony Brook University. Prerequisite (must complete before registering): Biology I with Lab ( BIOL 1200 ) or Introduction to Cell Biology and Genetics ( BIOL 1204 ) Notes: This study meets the guidelines for Biology concentrations.
