For as long as people have traveled, we’ve been inspired by the landscapes and living worlds we visit. Mountains, forests, deserts, and coral reefs shape our stories, economies, and sense of wonder. Yet tourism also affects wildlife, cultures, and ecosystems. This course introduces the principles of sustainable ecotourism, where conservation, community, and experience come together. Students explore how responsible travel can protect biodiversity, support local livelihoods, and promote cultural understanding. Topics include the history and growth of ecotourism, ethical wildlife viewing, community-based tourism, and strategies for reducing environmental impact. By the end of the course, students will understand how sustainable tourism can be balanced with conservation.
