Catalog description

Students will build upon existing skills and strategies to develop successful and sustainable careers in the visual arts. Through an immersive exploration of various career paths, professional development resources, and essential preparation for professional roles, students will learn how to navigate the complexities of a creative studio practice. Students will create a personalized business plan, share their artistic work and career goals within a supportive cohort, and engage in collaborative discussions that foster a vibrant, diverse community of emerging artists. By the end of the course, students will be well-prepared to enter the art world with confidence, equipped with the tools and networks necessary to thrive as working artists. Note: Students in the Visual Arts and Design Program must take at least one of the program’s capstone courses but may elect to take both: ARTS 4005 Advanced Studio Practice and/or ARTS 4080 Thriving in the Visual Arts: Strategies for Career Success. Students working on Arts degrees with concentrations such as Visual Art, Photography, and other fine arts degrees may also take these courses if the prerequisites have been met. Prerequisites: Before taking this course, students need to complete at least 8 credits of art theory and/or art history and at least 12 credits of advanced study in studio art, in areas such as painting, sculpture, digital media, digital painting, photography, or similar.
