Catalog description

Students will learn how persuasive visual arguments are created and will read about several key theories and movements within media studies and the visual arts. Through theoretical study, participants will learn to analyze visual narratives that enhance storytelling and artistic expression across mediums. Students will examine how visual elements—such as composition, color, and movement—convey meaning and influence audience perception. The course emphasizes critical analysis of visual media as it relates to debates about politics, race and representation, gender, the study of influential visual communicators and their political dimensions across various disciplines, and the application of industry-standard tools and techniques. Prerequisites: Student should have successfully completed at least one semester of college writing of any kind.
