Catalog description
Students will produce innovative projects utilizing various graphic design techniques, emphasizing their application in the arts and digital media arts. Students will use Adobe software programs and other tools, and analyze design principles, including typography, color theory, composition, and visual hierarchy to create original designs. They will learn how to write creative briefs—detailed documents outlining project objectives, target audience, messaging, and design requirements—to develop comprehensive project plans. An in-depth understanding of the grid system—a foundational tool for organizing content and ensuring visual harmony in design layouts—will be emphasized. Students will investigate the role of generative artificial intelligence in supporting the ethical production of engaging and inventive designs. Through practical graphic design scenarios, students will collaborate to address the requirements of specific artistic and digital media projects, delivering creative solutions across multiple design platforms. This course will prepare students to think critically and tackle complex graphic design challenges typically encountered by visual artists and digital media professionals in creative industries. Prerequisites: Successful completion of a related introductory design course or relevant advanced level experience.
