How is artificial intelligence reshaping the creation, performance, and experience of the arts? This advanced course explores the intersection of AI technologies and the performing arts, examining how innovation drives new forms of artistic expression and collaboration. Students will investigate the use of AI in areas such as generative art (audio, video, images, writing, etc.), interactive performances, virtual and augmented reality, and audience engagement, alongside critical discussions on the ethical and cultural implications of these technologies. Through a combination of theoretical inquiry, case studies, and hands-on projects, students will learn about cutting-edge tools and methodologies to analyze and create AI-driven artistic works. By the end of the course, students will develop a sophisticated, socially responsible understanding of how AI is transforming the performing arts landscape and contribute to conversations about the future of creativity in a tech-driven world. Prior to taking this course, Students should have advanced level writing, critical thinking, and research skills. Prerequisites: At least 12 credits of work in any areas of the performing arts.
