An introductory-level course that immerses students in the dynamic world of film festivals, exploring their role as artistic events, industry marketplaces, and cultural exchanges. Through travel to the Seattle International Film Festival, students will experience first-hand how festivals function as sites where filmmakers, critics, distributors, and audiences converge. Coursework combines scholarly readings on the history and theory of film festivals with attending festival events, including film screenings, panel discussions, and craft workshops.
